Managing a caseload
Write a 2,000 word reflection on care provided in the intrapartum or postnatal period. This will be related to a woman to whom the student has provided some continuity of career.

By critically reviewing this episode of care, reflect on the outcome of care given providing in-depth and detailed rationales for the decisions made, drawing on relevant evidence to support critical review.
Criteria for success
Can structure work in a logical fashion using a model of reflection, and presents this in a way that demonstrates understanding
Focused on one main topic drawn from the intrapartum or postnatal care of one of your case holding women
Demonstrates critical understanding of the issues identified, analyse evidence and apply to this situation
Formulates an action plan moving forward identifying any learning thus far as well as any future learning required
Demonstrates evidence of wide reading and reference to relevant studies /professional literature
Acknowledge sources of information correctly and includes an accurate reference list
Demonstrates application of the evidence used to the scenario and clinical midwifery practice
Demonstrates evidence of safe practice and appropriate professional values including self-evaluation and a commitment to self-development

A1: Critically evaluate the complex legal and statutory frameworks that guide and govern midwifery practice. Supports rationale for decisions and links to the role of the midwife, considers the (potential) impact of continuity of carer.
A2: Critically review approaches to risk assessment for low risk women and able to identify when appropriate referral may be required Rationale for decisions and background information to add context and understanding of scope of practise.
B1: Ability to apply the role and responsibilities of the midwife when delivering care to women during the pregnancy continuum, and solve challenges as appropriate. Analysis of chosen aspect to focus upon. Remember to also link to the woman who is the focus of the reflection.
B3: Critically review and reflect on their own practice, in the light of the available evidence and the outcomes of their care and identify appropriate actions to develop their knowledge. Action plan for personal learning and development.
