For this assignment, you will do the following:
Find and review one website or one media source (video or photograph or image) addressing your approved research question;
Create citation for the website or media source and answer the following evaluation questions:
What is the purpose of this source and what is it about?
How credible is this source and how do you know?
How does this source help you explore your research question and how useful is it for that exploration?
Reviewing Websites
Read and view entire content of your website, taking notes about its purpose and content, and its relevance to your research question.
Citing Websites
The citation instructions provided below are for MLA citation style (8th edition).
The basic MLA 8th edition citation format for a website or webpage is:
Author Lastname, Firstname. “Webpage Title in Quotation Marks.” Website Title in Italics. Publisher or sponsor name if different from website title, Publication date. Website/webpage URL. Accessed date for full websites and for webpages if no publication date is available.
Annotating Website(s) or Media
Your document should include the following sections:
Website or Media Citation and Evaluation
Create MLA (8th edition.) citation for your website or media that addresses your research question. If you were citing more than one website you would arrange your sources in alphabetical order, as you would in a bibliography.
Annotate your source using the following three questions in three separate paragraphs. Cite the
source first then annotate the source. Use your own words.
Describe the purpose and summarize the content of the source.
Evaluate the credibility of the source. Is the information reliable? How do you know? Is this source objective or biased? Does it present multiple points of view? Does the author cite their sources? What credentials or expertise does the author have?
Evaluate the usefulness of the source in addressing your research question. How does this source help you explore your research question? How does it change the way you think about your topic? What new questions does it raise for you? How does it compare with other sources you have found?
One more important note on italicization within source citations: As per MLA format 8th and 9th edition, city or state of publication is not included. Name of database in italics must be included as information was located in the database.
All containers where the information was found have to be italics. For example book titles are in italics because information was found there; name of periodicals are italicized because information was found there, we italicize names of databases because the books/periodicals were found in the database.
Websites sources and YouTube are italicized because information was found there.
