The research methodologies of nursing
The research methodologies module will develop your ability to think critically when using evidence so that you are able to analyses, safely use, share and apply national and international research findings to promote and inform best nursing practice.
As part of undertaking the research methodologies module, you will choose one of the following options for your power point presentation:
1. Service improvement plan
2. Service user narrative (critical reflection of an online service user/patient narrative)
3. Research proposal
4. Literature review using systematic methods
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion students will be able to:
Demonstrate critical appraisal of research methods, ethics and governance when reviewing the safe use, and application of research findings to promote and inform best nursing practice
Demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to think critically when applying evidence and drawing on experience to make evidence informed decisions in all situations
Synthesise how quality and effectiveness of nursing care can be evaluated in practice
Demonstrate through critical discussion how to use service delivery evaluation and audit findings to bring about continuous improvement
Service Improvement Proposal
You will be expected to demonstrate understanding of the Service Improvement process and its role in healthcare through the proposed Service Improvement Plan.
You need to demonstrate that you understand the Service Improvement process, this means understanding the methods involved.
Guidelines
The purpose and aim of this option are to identify and justify an area of practice where service improvement is required, and to develop a proposal in what to consider for your service improvement plan for the PowerPoint presentation.
You will need to debate the rationale for your choices for the methods. This is whereby during the presentation you will illustrate what different authors say – highlighting the references – and proposing your choice for the method in consideration of this literature.
To state a method without rationale will not achieve high marks especially without evidence you have drawn your understandings from the literature
