You will be composing and sending a letter to your US Senator and Congressman as well as to the sitting President of the United States regarding a current advocacy issue of concern (look on AOTA website under ‘Advocacy’).
You may choose any of the issues, research them to be as knowledgeable as possible and then you must lay out a case as to why this is not only important to you but to the profession of occupational therapy.
Your letters may contain some personal feelings on the subject but must also be factual in nature with supporting evidence to bolster your claim. You will be graded not only on content but on the basics of writing a professional letter.
