In what ways do you think the USMCA will benefit the U.S.?
One of the five themes of geography is movement. Regional trade involves the movement of goods and services across national borders within a defined region. NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, was an example of a regional trade agreement. NAFTA was controversial from the time it was signed into law in 1993. Former President Donald Trump called it the worst free trade agreement ever signed. Others have cited NAFTA’s advantages.
On January 29, 2020, then-President Trump signed the United States, Mexico, Canada Agreement , also called the USMCA, to replace NAFTA. Like NAFTA, the USMCA is a trilateral trade agreement involving the United States, Mexico, and Canada . Some think the USMCA is a better agreement than NAFTA. Others disagree.
