Below are the directions. Let’s Go!
General Directions for the 4-7 Minute Speech:
The Speech is a Must Do: The presentation is a requirement to keep the A1 transferability, so you CANNOT pass the class without making the presentation, no matter what other points you have earned.
The topic of the speech is “A Dream Vacation”. For the vacation presentation, as you saw in the “Research Skills Activity”, you can pretend you have whatever money you need for this vacation. You’ll do a bit of research about a place you’d like to go or have been to on vacation. Then you’ll write a speech that matches the outline below.
Practice it a few times and be sure it hits the 4-7 minutes.
Last, you’ll post your 4-7 minute Speech.
Be sure you’ve read the “Research Skills Activity”, and be sure you have completed that Research Skills activity before your 4-7 min. speech.
You don’t have to submit that activity for a grade.
The 4 – 7 minute Oral Presentation Detailed Directions:
Speak for 4 – 7 minutes. Your “A Dream Vacation” speech can be about a vacation you Have taken or one you would Like to take.
Think about how easy it is to talk for 30 minutes about a trip you have taken or that you want to take!
4-7 minutes is nothing. You’ve got this!
Follow the guidelines in the “Sample Outline” below.
Use Three Main Points, Clearly Stated, and signpost them by saying “First”, “Second”, “Third”. That helps your audience listen, and know where you are in the speech.
Do not read your speech.
It will make you more nervous, and bore an audience.
To prevent this, you can use index cards if you need them, or just key words on a half sheet of paper.
Look good. It builds your confidence. And use Good Delivery – be enthusiastic about your vacation spot, “talking to us”.

Reminder of the Tech Tips if you’re having trouble uploading your Speech:
Even though the topic is “My Dream Vacation”, do Not Start with:
“I’m going to tell you about my vacation to Hawaii” or “…why I want to go to Australia” or “… why I like Washington D.C.”
Because People Usually Don’t Care! Just like a commercial on TV, you need to hook your audience’s attention right away.
And Remember to Cite Your 3 Sources with “According to” in your Speech.
Attention Grabber – make us want to listen, while using good taste.
