CASE VIGNETTE 1
It is floor time on the unit. The secure staff begins letting youth out of their rooms. Youth A is on the phone while Youth B and C are watching TV, and Youth D and E are playing cards. Following
Youth A’s phone call, he speaks briefly with D and E before going over to watch TV. After a few
minutes of watching TV youth A assaults Youth B. Unit staff separate the youth and make a request
for Restorative Justice as the youth cool off in their room. Unit staff reports they do not have any
insight as to what transpired but that Youth B is new to the unit.
