Week 5 Assignment POW Review Paper
The experience of captivity carries stresses that are unique in the broad discussion combat and combat related trauma. Examining the conditions endured and methods used to survive such conditions is necessary to gain context of the POW experience.
In a your paper, examine the psychological and physiological stresses endured by POWs and the resulting long-term physical and mental health implications based upon the course materials and other available scholarly publications, including each of the following areas.
Discuss the commonly held understanding of captivity in war experienced by POWs.
Include a discussion outlining the common forms of treatment experienced and reported by POWs.
Discuss the conditions in which POWs were held during captivity.
Examine the psychological and physiological stresses that POWs experienced during captivity.
Discuss the coping mechanisms used in captivity.
Provide details discussing the reasons these reactions are more or less adaptive in captivity.
Additionally, discuss the long-term physical and mental health implications of captivity.
Work should be submitted in a Word document or other compatible word processing document, and be 5 to 6 pages in length, excluding the required title and reference page.
Scholarly sources should be cited both in-text and on the reference page of the submission. A minimum of five academic, scholarly sources are required to be cited in the work, four of which must be peer-reviewed journal articles. Course materials may not be used to meet the scholarly source requirement.
Submissions should be formatted per APA standards. Headers are required throughout the submission. For assistance and resources on APA formatting style, contact the APUS library and/or the APUS writing center.
The basic parts of a paper should also be included; these are the introduction section, with a precise thesis statement, the body of the paper with clear, discernable headings formatted to APA style levels of heading where appropriate, and a conclusion that restates the thesis and summarizes the major points of the entire paper.
