For our fourth discussion forum, I would like you to select a news article focused on an
event or issue related to a topic covered in this course. You will then write a brief
summary of the article and discuss connections between course material and the
content of your selected article. Choose your article from one of the sites below:
BBC World News
BBC News: Science & Environment
Reuters World News
AP International News
Science Daily: Environment
Science Daily: Society
Nature
Mongabay News
After reading and reflecting on your selected article, click on the “News Article” heading to enter the forum and create a new thread that includes these three elements:
• The title and link to your selected article
• A substantive, one-paragraph summary of the article
• A substantive paragraph addressing the following questions:
o To which of the twelve world regions does this article relate ?
o To which topic(s) covered in World Geography does this article relate?
Briefly discuss specific connections between course material and the
content of your selected article.
The total length of your article summary and discussion of its connections with course
material should be 250-350 words. In your summary, please make sure to paraphrase information from the article in order to avoid plagiarism. Since this is a brief, one-paragraph summary, do not include direct quotes from the article.
Once you have completed your original post, spend some time reading your classmates’ posts and select one thread to comment on. Read the article upon which the thread was based. Then click “Reply” and write a thoughtful one-paragraph response consisting of a commentary on the article and/or the original discussion post. remember to avoid any disrespectful or inappropriate language. Your reply should be approximately 75-125 words in length.
The Discussion Post Rubric will be used to evaluate this assignment. You can examine
