Description
n this assignment, you will conduct a Mini Usability Evaluation of your prototype.
Preparation
If you have not done so already, you should complete all of the “Learn” items in the Week 09 Evaluation module.
You will have to recruit a person to help you conduct a usability evaluation. We encourage you to reach out to your discussion groups or to Slack to ask for someone to help. Because you only have a week, we will keep this usability evaluation simple.
Analysis
In this assignment we are asking you to recruit a person to conduct a usability evaluation of the Interface you created in Figma for Assignment #6.
To conduct your analysis, you should use the resources presented on this page about usability testing for how to run the usability test.
What we expect from this mini usability evaluation:
the prototype you are testing is the Figma prototype you created
you practice using some aspects of a usability script in you evaluation
you recruit one person to evaluate your prototype (remotely is fine, via zoom screenshare)
you evaluate at least one task (e.g. the task you listed in your Assignment #6)
you ask the participant to walk through the interface you designed and speak out loud, to tell you what is confusing to them, and what their perception of the interface is (to learn about any misperceptions)
you summarize the take away from the usability test
Important: it is extremely important that you do not explain your interface to the participant at all, you provide it along with your task and let the participant make sense of the design. It is also very important that you ask the participant to speak through what they see on the interface. Doing the reading for this module is essential to completing this assignment.
Deliverable
You will need to write up your analysis in a document. This is a simplified version of a typical usability report. The document should include:
screen shots of your interface and link to Figma prototype tested
a summary of the task you asked the participant to perform
a summary of the participant’s feedback. We expect you to only collect qualitative data. You can use the Qualitative data prompts from this resource as a guide (Links to an external site.). We expect you will at least learn about:
Task related feedback:
What went well when the participant performed the task? What was clear in your interface?
What went poorly when the participant performed the task? What was unclear in your interface?
Overall interface related feedback
What went well when the participant interacted with your interface? What was clear in your interface?
What went poorly when the participant interacted with your interface? What was unclear in your interface?
provide a list of issues you identified in the interface and the severity of the issues as explained here (Links to an external site.)
provide a list of at least two changes you would make to the user interface to address the feedback that the participant brought up
