Summative Assessment: 3000 words
Topic of the student’s own choice, identified from practice experience and of relevance to service users and their families’ care experiences.
The topic must be focused on improving patient safety and / or patient experience
Examine the evidence supporting a clinical topic (chosen from your clinical experience) and critically appraise the evidence to underpin the evidence based practice.
This must include a critical analysis of how the findings can be implemented into the practice area and utilise a model to facilitate this. This should be accompanied by a discussion of factors that may inhibit or enable the implementation of the research findings.
Remember an introduction does not have to be just one paragraph. This should include the following;

Use an appropriate critical appraisal tool to critique the studies
Place the critiques in the appendix
Summarise and synthesis the papers
Consider key aspects such as;
Stages of Critical Evaluation
Research design and approach
Sampling strategy and selection of subjects
Data collection techniques and instruments
Data analysis and results
Ethical considerations
Consider how you would implement the approach in practice and with all the stakeholders
• Critically apply the Ottawa model – how would you implement the change?
• Any foreseen barriers or facilitators?
Remember – this is the title of the module!
