Symbolism in Walker’s “Everyday Use”
Read the short story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, paying particular attention to the dialogue surrounding the quilt. Then, in a response of no fewer than 400 words, discuss what the quilt symbolizes to Maggie and Dee and how that meaning differs. What does their relationship to the quilt reveal about their characters? Which sister does the narrator favor? Be sure to discuss not just the what but the how: how do you know? Use the story liberally to illustrate your insights.
