The works of Philip Roth and Woody Allen have evoked admiration, controversy, and condemnation for the intimate, scathing, and often comical caricatures of being Jewish in post-World War II America.
Choose either Roth or Allen and examine some aspects of “Jewishness” in The Ghost Writer or Annie Halland how they fit within the context of Jewish humor.
“Jewishness” is broadly defined here, and may include (among other things): identity, religious practices, family life, relations with non-Jews, antisemitism, self-hatred, gender,and sexuality.
