Essay – “Industrial Manufacturing of Bioplastic” (50 marks)
Bioplastic is a polymer, which atoms or groups of atoms are joined. Plastics are large molecules, a type of macromolecule. Over the last 70 years, synthetic plastics have been invented, often mimicking nature and they are now manufactured in millions of tonnes a year and are one of the most essential materials we use. Many are used as fibres or moulded into required shapes with a steadily growing market demand.
You are required to write an essay of not more than 4000 words on the industrial manufacture of one type of Bioplastic. The essay should cover the following topics
The history of the development of process techniques.
The process routes comparisons. Based on the basic knowledge of bioprocess technique, the manufacturing technique can be described in terms of process principles and industrial application. More deep insights on the theme area are expected.
Evaluation of the industrial manufacture of Bioplastic based on Life Cycle Assessment and sustainability of the process.
