Description
The following are short essay style questions. Choose THREE out of the six to answer. Each answer is worth 10%.
You must include a thesis (central argument) for each question. The point of the exam is to demonstrate that you understand and can synthesize the required materials across the course.
Marks will be lost for repeated reliance on the same authors across different questions.
Show that you can integrate the ideas of the course as a whole. Make specific and sustained reference to the articles, interviews, videos, and lectures.
Your answers should be 3–4 pages long, APA formatted, and double spaced; you should use 12pt font throughout.
Be sure to support your claims with evidence from the specified materials. Organize your writing in a coherent fashion.
1) Using the interview with Ash Grover as your starting point, discuss three theorists featured in the course whom you did not previously address in a SOCI 3P01 assignment.
How do they relate to themes in the interview? Be specific throughout: Use direct quotes from the interview, as well as the articles you are including.
2) Pick three videos included in SOCI 3P01 lecture materials from three different weeks. Use two theorists you have not previously discussed in an assignment you have already submitted to analyse the videos.
That is, use their work as interpretive lenses to “make sense” of the videos. In other words, how would they interpret the videos? What would they say about them? Why?
3) Connect three readings across three different weeks that you have not already written about in a previous assignment.
Imagine the authors in a room together. What would they say to each other? How do their ideas resonate?
4) Exclusively drawing on the lecture materials, illuminate how themes of colonialism and
capitalism were discussed throughout this course. Make specific reference to the slides and associated audio.
Do not only rely on the written lecture materials in your answer. (You may find this link to APA citation for PowerPoints useful:
5) Highlight three big ideas from the course that were new to you. What surprised you most, andwhy? What specifically from the materials struck you most, and challenged you?
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the ideas, use supporting works from the course to substantiate your claims, and emphasize what particularly challenged you to think in new ways.
6) Write a letter to your younger self in high school, bringing in four theorists from the course to reflect on what draws you to Sociology. Concentrate on what you would want that younger version of you to know about the ideas you have encountered in this course and why.
