Description
Identify an organisation you would like to research. This could be a small, medium or large business. You should select one that you have worked at or one you have easy access to or one that you can easily find information on. The selection should be one that makes research easier for you.
With reference to three different high quality sources (academic journal papers, industry reports, surveys, annual reports etc.), identify one area of the business you would like to improve/change. The areas of business you need to focus on are planning, organising, leading and control. You only need to select one of the four listed above.
Identify at least one aspect of the area you would like to improve. It could be an area they are underperforming in, or one you believe they could do better at. You will need to justify the kind of improvement you want to undertake and this has to be informed by research. There is a wealth of research papers that provide new insights on the best way to manage in terms of planning, organising, leading and controlling.
It is up to you to find and use the ones that best support your area of focus.
Provide details of how you will apply this research to improve the highlighted area of the business. It is useful for students of Management to not only recognise how to search for useful information that can benefit their business but to also know how that information can be embedded within the business.
An excellent report will highlight a very convincing and insightful area of improvement. It will reveal a robust decision-making process supported by a wide variety of theories in management and should complete the following tasks:
Identify an organisation you would like to research and detail the current status quo in the business using at least three different high quality sources of information.
With reference to at least three different high quality sources, determine what is wrong with the status quo and explain why this needs changing. You need to focus on one of the four perspectives of Planning, Organizing, Leading or Controlling.
Evaluate alternative solutions to the issue you have identified and make a justified decision to apply one of these solutions.
Outline a plan for how you will implement your decision. Consider how you will plan, lead, and control this improvement project.
