This unit reflects on work placement to include workplace procedures and policies and how they are used to maintain control. Issues around achieving compliance, variations in practice and the various drivers behind policy.
Students will research issues around one policy from their workplace in relation to management theory (2000 words in length).
This unit allows students to draw on their own work situation and develop a business report related to their place of work or for them to explore a business related project. The student will have an understanding of their chosen business project area and will illustrate that they have increased their knowledge of their chosen area from assignment one.
Final Portfolio Report
Following your presentation (assignment 1) you need to produce a 2000 word formal research portfolio report (plus appendices) analysing the effectiveness of your chosen organisational topic policy and procedures in terms of management theory.
Your report will analyse through secondary and primary research the effectiveness of your chosen policy in terms of management theory. You may need to identify procedures in your workplace (related to your policy) about which there are problems or issues. It might be that you observe:
A variation in practice in a procedure
An element of non-compliance with a procedure
A general feeling that the procedure is unpopular
The procedure does not seem fit for purpose.
You should reflect on your chosen topic policy and procedure; and examine it adopting a mixture of secondary and primary research, so as to critically analyse findings and suggest improvements
Your work must evidence significant depth of research and show an understanding of the relevant theories, models and concepts relating to your chosen policy topic and an assessment and evaluation of the key constraints of that policy/procedure found from your primary research. Critically evaluate it regarding its effectiveness for all stakeholders who are involved in its implementation.
You will provide a conclusion and recommendations for the improvement of that policy and procedure addressing those constraints (gaps) identified between the policy, procedures and actual practice in the workplace.
Your report should be in a formal business format (tutor will provide further guidance) with a substantial appendices with researched evidence. All references must follow Harvard referencing conventions and a reference list should be included at the end of your report. You should include evidence of primary research in the appendices. Your work from assignment one will form the basis of your introduction, objectives and methodology
Engagement in Moodle forum
You must contribute a minimum of 2 NEW posts to your WBL tutor group on-line forum on Moodle by 01st April 2021 at 4pm (500 words max).
Your assessed contribution to forums must consist of a minimum of:
One substantial initial posts (responding to your tutor’s question)
One considerable and thoughtful reply to one other student post.
