Consult the manual for a GPS fitted on your ship and observe the GPS in use in a number of different geographical positions. Write a report to include the following:

• the data GPS can be operated on

• Where “datum shift” can be found on a chart

• how the DoP (dilution of precision)varies with time/position, and what the significance of this is

• the amount of integration between GPS and other navigational systems

• other position-fixing methods used to confirm the accuracy of the GPS position
