People can learn a great deal about public speaking from listening to others deliver their messages. For this rhetorical analysis paper, you will watch a historically important speech from American Rhetoric’s website (www.americanrhetoric.com) https://www.americanrhetoric.com or the History Channel’s website (www.history.com). A rhetorical analysis allows one to examine parts of a presentation to explain how these work to either inform, persuade, or entertain.
In this paper, you will research and analyze a speech of note from U.S. history to determine if the speech was an appropriate response to the situation of the time.
Do the following:
Choose a video (audio only clips are not allowed) from www.history.com or www.americanrhetoric.com
one speaker to focus on, consider the context of the speech, and determine whether their goal during the presentation was to inform, persuade, or entertain.
Write a 5-paragraph essay (each paragraph of “respectful” length) (typed, double-spaced, Times Roman font – size 12)
I. Intro, indicating in the thesis if the speaker met his/her goal.
II. The rhetorical situation – what’s happening in the US at the time of the speech, prompting the speech.
III. The speaker’s content – is it well organized/arranged, etc. Was the speech appropriate to give at that time? Did it meet its goals?
IV. The Speaker’s delivery –
V. Conclusion — Did the speech meet its goals? How so?
