Globalization has precipitated numerous significant yet unseen socio-economic and legal-political consequences. It has disrupted the production as well as distribution of wealth and also resulted in significant changes in the state’s instruments and context of power. Globalization has resulted in increased connectivity to embody Marshall McLuhan’s vision of a ‘global village,’ which led to the integration and fusion of markets and culminated in the creation of a digital space where the reach of the nation-state is very limited. Globalization has also led to increased criticism against markets defined by national boundaries as well as the trivialization of territorial market places.
The following paper is of the view that the significant growth of the power of the multinational has undermined the jurisdiction of the nation-state, but not its sovereignty. It will argue that these institutions reinforce and change the sovereignty of the nation-state by increasing emphasis on bargaining power over the territorial enclave.
