The ISTE standards call on educational leaders to advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content, and learning opportunities for ALL students. In this paper, you will research and explain educational and digital equity and how technology can best be leveraged to support teaching and learning in today’s digital world.
The significant focus for this paper should be on equity and justice issues for underrepresented populations, socially and economically disadvantaged learners, or disparity issues regarding access to technologies and resources, both in and out of school.
Research and discuss what is meant by the digital, pedagogical, and resource divide (meaning why some students have devices and access to the internet and resources that make online learning a success and why others do not), why a divide exists, and how the divide might best be addressed.
Identify data representing gaps that currently exist at either the national, state, or local level. Suggest and discuss several possible strategies for addressing the gaps you identify. News articles, including media, may be used for data sourcing.
As you plan and organize your paper be sure to address the following question with a focus on the importance of advocacy: Is digital equity a social justice issue? Why/Why not?
*****All references must have been published within the last 5 years. Due to the timeliness of the topic, use scholarly and peer-reviewed articles published within the last year. News articles or media used for data sourcing should be current within the last two years.
