Assignment: Signature Assignment: Write a Literature Review

Instructions

For your Signature Assignment, you will write a literature review on one of the topics covered in this course.

Be sure to choose a topic that is not so broad to avoid a cumbersome literature review. Some examples for topics include: exploring marital satisfaction during transition to parenthood; determining how siblings affect mental health; determining if cohabitation prevents divorce; identifying healthy parenting strategies; and examining the strengths of grandparents raising grandchildren.
As you conduct your literature review, be sure to address the following:

Provide a clear statement of the question you will answer by reviewing the literature.

Review key recent studies (published in the past 5 years) from the literature relevant to your selected topic.

Evaluate the strength of the literature. Determine if sound methods been used.

Determine the differences that exist among the articles for each (sub)topic that you identified in your literature review. If there are contradictory findings, you may (or may not) be able to identify methodological differences that could account for the contradiction (e.g., differences in measurements or participant demographics).

Determine if any gaps in the literature exist. What future research needs to be conducted?

Consider the relationships between scholarly sources within each subtopic and drawn conclusions within each subtopic. If you take a step back and look at the entire group of subtopics and your work thus far, what overall general conclusions can you draw?

Some questions to consider include:

1) What are some general observations on the topic?

2) Are there overall themes or patterns in the literature? and;

3) Do the patterns or themes suggest future areas of inquiry?

Identify and explain the implications for prevention or intervention from the literature.
End with a brief summary of the key themes and gaps in the literature from your review.

Length: 13 pages, not including title and reference page
References: Include a minimum of 10 scholarly resources.

Your literature review should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards
