The general design of the paper should be as follows:
Paragraph I:
Describe, in detail, the current event.
Paragraph II:
What are the root causes of the event, and how we have come to this crisis.
Paragraph III:
What are the proposed solutions to the crisis? Where do the two major political parties (and/or candidates, countries, states) stand on how to address the issue?
Paragraph IV:
College-appropriate, first person analysis of the issue. Students are to present the solutions they think are best for addressing the issue at hand, in detail
General Information and Instructions:
Paper will be worth 400 points. (40% of the grade)
Paper: 4+ paragraphs (should be no shorter than 4 doubled-spaced pages (2 single spaced), one-inch margins, and 12-pt Times New Roman/Calibri type.
Students must furnish parenthetical referencing in the body of the essay (author, date, page #). Minimum of 3 citations and 3 works cited. The style of source citations is student preference.
Students must have a clearly labeled “Sources Cited” at the conclusion of the paper. Sources should not include Wikipedia or any other encyclopedia type information; Jr. High type sites such as Whitehouse.gov; non-credentialed blogs; textbooks; or instructor notes.

Submit through blackboard only. You will click on “Writing Assignment” (in the Unit the work is assigned), scroll to the second box labeled “Assignment Submission,” attach your work, and hit submit. The paper must be in an attachment.
It is preferable to use word or pdf formats, as some there are some formats that do not open.

How does the US Government curb mass shootings? What constitutes a “mass” shooting? What are some solutions to help with this occurrence?
Do you foresee any problems with your solutions? Should there be a federal law or should states create laws for their own states? What laws are in place currently or have been in place in the past? Were they effective? What would the consequence be for attempting or participating in a mass shooting be?
Does age factor in? Is there parental accountability? Are mass shootings a current problem that needs to be addressed on a large scale or does the media make them seem more prevalent than they are?
What is meant by a “peaceful transition of power” in regards to the US democratic process? How is this best accomplished? Do current elected officials have an obligation to this notion and if so, how do they best go about getting their supporters to follow this? Look at the events that transpired on January 6th, 2021. Was this good or bad? H
ow could this be prevented? What did the events occur? Should events like that be prevented in the future and how could this be done? Should the protection of the transition of power be a priority to elected officials? Why or why not?
