40% of Pacific Island school children do not complete primary school and only 20% graduate from secondary school (include citations to support this; provide an explanation for this fact and any additional information available.
This can have a significant impact on health literacy and the ability to comprehend medical instructions or health teaching.
Political & legal factors: (10 points)
What are the political beliefs, political status, current or historical legal factors affecting this cultural group?
What are the healthcare implications of these beliefs?
What nursing interventions and behaviors might you engage in because of these factors?
EXAMPLE:
Undocumented immigrants (from any cultural group) may not have access to health insurance. As such they may not come in for routine care or may be untruthful about their circumstances.
It is important for the nurse to address the patient in a non-threatening way and explain that immigration status will not impact care.
This may also be an opportunity for community health workers to provide care or share health related information in unconventional locations that individuals may frequent such as schools or grocery stores.
