Develop a research project from a given topic area and highlight its significance, the research question, and conduct the initial literature search. Illustrate the proposed research methods in the form of a poster.

Explain the rationale of the selected research methodology, including data analysis and its relevance to the proposed research project.

This assignment supports unit learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Assignment details

There are two parts to this assignment: Part A: Poster and Part B: Rationale. To begin, choose a topic area from the given topics, then work your way through the following information to meet the requirements of this assignment.

Topic area

You have learned that wound assessment and care is an integral part of Nursing and Midwifery practice.

You are designing a research project that focuses on wound assessment or wound management.

Developing a research project

You will need to develop a research project. To do so, work your way through Assignment 2 Developing a research project (PPTX 7.5 MB)  Download Assignment 2 Developing a research project (PPTX 7.5 MB).

The following module related activities will also help you with each step of developing your research project:

1.7 Activity 2: PICo and PICO/T.

2.4 Activity 2: Practise formulating a research question.

3.6 Activity 3: Developing a research design.

4.5 Activity: Sampling and data collection and analysis in qualitative research designs.

6.4 Activity 2: Analysis in quantitative research designs.
Part A: Poster

Develop a poster using the Assignment 2 Poster and rationale template (DOCX 160 KB)  Download Assignment 2 Poster and rationale template (DOCX 160 KB)in response to your chosen topic area (500 words).

In your poster, include the following:

Title.
A brief background (significance of selected topic).
Research question (PICo/PICO).
Database search.
Methodology.
Research design.
Participants.
Sampling strategies.
Data collection method.
Data analysis method.
References.
Part B: Rationale

Note: This word limit has been broken down per question to help you structure your responses.
Based on your topic area in your poster, respond to the following questions in 1000 words (total).

Question 1:

Provide the rationale for the choice of the research design (e.g. qualitative/quantitative/mixed method) and its relevance to the proposed research project (350 words).

Consider the following points when addressing this question:

Begin with a topic sentence stating what research design will be used.

Include referenced information on the design and its general benefits.

Connect this to your proposed research project and consider its relevance to the project.

Will the research design provide new insights into the topic/issue?

Will it generate more reliable data?
Will it clearly address the research question?
End with a concluding sentence.

Here’s a list of some sample expressions for you to consider using:

The quasi experimental design will add value to the research project because …

The descriptive qualitative design will be suitable for the project since it allows for …

Using a … research design, the researcher will be able to …

Here’s a list of some sample concluding sentences for you to consider using:

Therefore, … is best suited to this research project.

… hence, it is pertinent to this investigation.

… thus, a quasi experimental design is the most appropriate for this project.

Sample response:

A non-experimental design will be used to investigate the significance of home-based cancer-care treatments. According to  Borbasi et al. (2008), a non-experimental design focuses on naturally occurring data in a specific context and in relation to a particular sample to analyse connections between certain variables …. (add more information here).

In this research project, a non-experimental design will be used to identify … (specify its purpose). This design is suitable for the project since it allows for … (give reasons for its relevance using referenced information).

Question 2:

Provide the rationale for the selection of the participants (sampling criteria), sampling strategies and data collection method, and its appropriateness to the proposed research project (350 words).

Question 3:

Provide the rationale for the selection of the data analysis method and discuss why it is appropriate for the proposed research project (300 words).

Your rational must:

expand on the information in the poster have well-structured and written body paragraphs
use referenced information
use formal language
be written in the third person
provide evidence drawn from literature, which must be paraphrased
use in-text references using APA 7th edition
include a reference list.

Note: the reference list is not included in the word count.
