Global Climate Change
Description
The Policy Implication of Global Climate Change
Remember the following:
(1)Write to a senior decision maker (other than the US president) either in the United States or in another country of your choice, or in an international organization of the UN, or in an international non-governmental organization.
The memo itself should be no more than three (3) pages single-spaced.
The reason for this page limit is that, in real life, a busy decision maker is very unlikely to read a policy memorandum longer than this.
You may include appendixes if there are additional details or data that are directly germane to the subject of your memo, but you should only do so if it is essential in order to explicate an important issue raised in the memo.
There is generally no need for scholarly footnotes in a policy memo, unless there is a critical point that you need to further explain or term that you need to define.
Unlike “real life”, I would also like you to include a list of the sources that you consulted in preparing the paper, but that will not be “counted” in the page limit.
As with the research paper, you should submit the policy memorandum via Turn It In AND also send it to me directly via e-mail.
FORMAT
• A statement of the specific issue to be decided or problem to be addressed by the decision maker this should be very succinct (usually no more than a paragraph)
• Analysis of the issue or problem — about 1 page
• Presentation of policy options – typically, 2-3 options would be presented for the decision maker to consider; each option should be presented in no more than about one paragraph
• Policy recommendation — you should complete the memo by presenting the decision maker with your professional recommendation as to which option you consider preferable and the reason(s) why you take this position.
NB:
The policy memorandum should address an issue or topic related to Climate Change.
