Principles of Experiential & Action Learning & the Reflective Practitioner
Learning Report
This report will allow you to reflect on your most significant learnings over the course of the term. It should include all the elements of a formal paper, including title page, table of contents, and bibliography. References to literature should be woven into your discussion.
The richness and integrity of your report is enhanced by relevant use of appropriate concepts and theories presented in class, and from academic sources. It is required that you use the APA format for cited references and bibliography.
(Reference implies a quote or a paraphrase from the academic source and cited using APA format.)
An outline of this referencing format is available from the library at http://library.concordia.ca/help/howto/apa.php (20% of total grade)
Report should be maximum 4000 words in length excluding title page, table of contents, and bibliography.
Organize your report responding to each area, using sub-headings to identify each area. The percentage value of each section of the Learning Report is indicated.
1 – Key Learning Experience – 25%
Identify a learning experience you have had that is significant to you – an “aha” moment. This “key learning” point may cover any subject area that was covered in this class.
Describe the learning and support your discussion with relevant descriptions of the concepts/theories, people, teachings, exercises, reading and/or personal risk-taking.
Ensure that you reference this discussion to appropriate concepts/theories from the notes or other academic sources.
2 – Significance of learning and feedback – 30%
Describe why this learning was meaningful to you. What is its significance to your life/relationships outside of the class? Discuss any awareness and insight you have gained about your own behaviour as a result of the learning experience.
Who or what was particularly helpful to you? Use concrete, specific examples. Include a discussion of significant feedback you received from your interactions with classmates or others. Ensure that you make appropriate links to concepts/theories from the notes or other academic sources.
3 – Effects on Relationships – 30%
Discuss the effects that this learning has or will have on the way you handle challenges outside of class and describe what you will do differently in light of this learning. Describe the attempts that you have made (successfully or unsuccessfully) to become more effective in managing your own learning.
4 – Summary and Conclusion – 15%
As you critically reflect on your experiences and participation throughout this course, discuss your goals to continue to improve the management of your own learning. Be specific about these goals and describe how you will achieve them. Include in this section any insights you gained from doing this report.
