TASK DESCRIPTION
Explore the strategic management position of their own organisation, or an organisation with which they are familiar, and to conduct and in-depth strategic analysis.
The analysis will culminate in appropriate recommendations for a new strategic approach, underpinned by relevant academic literature and theory.
At the start of the strategic analysis, you will provide a brief description of the company, its objectives and current approach to reach them and its future goals.
In undertaking the strategic analysis, you will begin by identifying the main strategic issues facing your chosen organisation in maintaining its competitive position.
You should summarise the key external and internal issues identified in your situational analysis using a SWOT or similar framework.
You will then be required to evaluate potential corporate level strategic directions that have been taken by the chosen organisation to date in order to develop and sustain its competitive position.
This will give you an opportunity to demonstrate your ability to evaluate the strategic options you have identified in relation to the development of global competitive positioning as well as offering an understanding of the requirements of building competitive capabilities for leveraging across global markets.
Frameworks and models of strategic management should be considered when considering specific strategies for developing and sustaining a global competitive strategy.
Following on from the analysis you will then be expected to fully discuss the implications of the options taken for strategic management decision-making. In so doing you will demonstrate an appreciation of the wider implications for strategic management decisions and the incorporation of a new strategy on certain areas within the organisation.
Finally, you will be expected to provide appropriate recommendations largely based on your findings.
Additional Generic Guidelines for Completion of the Assignment
Word limit – 5,000 words allowing for a margin of +/- 10%. Marks will be deducted for
exceeding the word limit and your tutor might stop reading/grading beyond this limit.
Demonstrate a wide level of relevant reading and research from a variety of sources
(minimum of 50 references).
When either quoting directly or taking ideas from something you have read you must
accurately reference using the Harvard Referencing System both in the main body as well as full details of all references used provided in the reference list. Guidance with regard to this system is also available in the Student Toolkit on Canvas.
You should note that quotations count against the word limit for MBA and that you are required to use quotation marks when quoting directly, so that when your script is being assessed by the plagiarism software, Urkund, it is clear you have acknowledged that the text is a quotation.
It is appropriate that you maintain the confidentiality of any contributions that
others make in your MBA ‘learning environment’ so that you can openly benefit from each other’s insight.
Assignments should be word-processed using Times New Roman or Arial 11/12-point type with 1.5 or 2.0 line spacing.
Your student number should be inserted as a header or footer together with the date of submission. Also ensure that the module code is included in either the header or footer of work submitted and that the document is saved in Word.
Avoid use of the first person such as ‘I’ and ‘we’ and ensure the assignment is
professionally presented with no spelling or careless grammatical errors.
The assignment should be submitted via the Assignment Submission link
