Assignment Brief
You work for a knowledge management consultancy firm and have been contracted by a client FTSE 100 company to evaluate the organization’s knowledge management practices.
The client company is specifically concerned to evaluate the effectiveness, equity and efficiency of the organization’s current knowledge management practices across the entire organization, as well as identify opportunities for improvement.
Present a 2000 word report analysing company practice based on publicly available information (company and media reports). Your recommendations must be supported by research findings from the academic literature.
Description of Assessment
Select a FTSE 100 company from the London Stock Exchange (https://www.londonstockexchange.com/indices/ftse-100/constituents/table).
Write a 2000 word report on the company’s knowledge management practices, providing an overview of the history of their implementation, the issue they were intended to address, their effectiveness in doing so, as well as opportunities for improvement.
Make recommendations with reference to research findings in the academic literature.
Your Report should include the following sections:
Executive Summary
Your report will open with a 100 (+/- 10%) word executive summary introducing your organisation, its knowledge management approach, your mode of evaluation and analysis, key findings and recommendations.
Table of Contents
This should set out the title of each section and where readers can find them in the report.
Body

Introduction
Introduce your FTSE 100 multinational organisation, its basic history and its (explicit and implicit) mission and values (from company reports, mainstream media reports, or academic publications).
Discuss the knowledge management literature highlighting the benefits of effective knowledge management, along with the challenges and complexities involved. Introduce your chosen FTSE 100 organization and explain why knowledge management is of interest to this organization, what issues knowledge management has been introduced to address and the importance of programme evaluation.
Methodology
Describe your data collection and evaluation methods. For your data collection, describe how accessed your publicly available source material, how you verified its validity and any inclusion and exclusion criteria used for screening the source material.
For your evaluation, explain the method you used for identifying themes and areas of significance from the source material concerning the organization’s knowledge management practices. Where possible use tables to explain your methods both in words and visually.
Findings
Describe the issues (positive and negative) that emerge from your evaluation of the company’s knowledge management practices.
Provide examples of the contexts where these issues arise and how they are affecting the organization’s operations.
Describe the extent to which these issues have been addressed, whether the measures undertaken are adequate, and what the likely consequences might be. Where possible use tables or graphs to present your findings both in words and visually.
Discussion, Recommendations and Conclusions
Discuss the findings and make recommendations concerning the organization’s knowledge management programme.
Make sure your recommendations are supported with reference to research findings in the academic literature.
Conclude with a 250 (+/- 10%) word summary review of the selected organisation’s background, its knowledge management approach, the findings of your evaluation and your recommendations.
Formatting
The required file format is PDF. Double space your text and use 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide margins. The text should be in a 12-point Times New Roman font and left-justified.
Pages should be numbered, with the numbers appearing in the bottom right hand corner of the pages. Include your word count on the title page.
Your assignment can be 10% longer or shorter than the 2500 word limit.
Referencing
Include at least eight references relevant quality journal articles as well as the module core and supplementary reading. Illustrate your arguments with cases from the lectures, the textbook and relevant reports from reputable media outlets.
Provide a complete list of references, listed alphabetically, with a hanging indent at the end of your essay.
