1. Using course lectures, readings (and documentaries), describe the ways the view of Canada in Sweetland is different from your own.
2. The second half of Sweetland, after the death of Jesse, focuses on Moses’ life on the deserted outport of Sweetland and his attempts to survive the weather and the ocean in fall, winter, and early spring.
Using course lectures, readings and especially the documentary, Invisible Nation, explain how the second half of the novel might be regarded as a metaphor for First Nations, Indigenous, and Métis Peoples’ struggle to make space and place in Canada, despite Canada’s historical resistance to the idea.
