Evidence-based Best Practices Paper
INTRODUCTION
One way in which Canadian healthcare organizations strive to be accountable and to meet high quality standards is through sharing information about evidence-based best practices. An evidence-based best practice is identified through data collection and analysis. It is deemed to be a best practice because it works best in comparison to similar practices; it is at least as cost effective as similar practices; and it satisfies clients and/or internal or external customers.
Write a paper about an evidence-based best practice of any health care organization or community in Canada that, if more widely known, could benefit others.
OBJECTIVES
In writing the Best Practices paper, you will demonstrate:
general knowledge of the concept of evidence-based best practices
data collection and analytic skills
application of the concepts of evidence-based best practices to a specific healthcare practice or procedure
professional academic writing skills
CONTENT
As the best practices identified by students will be unique, the content of papers will vary.
However, each paper should include:
reference in the introduction to the concept of evidence-based best practices, with a definition, for example
information about the practice highlighted in the paper: who, what, when, where, and why
a discussion as to why it is believed the practice is a best practice and, if adapted, how it could benefit others
recommendations as to where and how the practice might be adapted. (Recommendations should be few in number, specific and realistic.) The foregoing is not intended to suggest the headings and subheadings in the student’s table of contents. These should be unique to each paper.
CHOOSING A SUBJECT
The choice of evidence-based best practice on which to base your paper is unlimited. The best practice selected may be narrow or broad in scope.
Examples of those that are narrow in scope include successful:
in-services
team-building strategies
quality improvement initiatives
appreciation events for staff or volunteers
patient care initiatives
Examples of best practices that are broad in scope include successful:
programs (e.g., related to risk management)
revenue-generating undertakings
marketing plans
management/union joint ventures
If you select a best practice that has been written about before, you must update the information and ensure that the discussion and recommendations in the paper are original.
I would like Canadian websites used for the references and related to Canadian Healthcare as it indicates in the description.
