For your first short paper, read chapter 2 of Mark Katz, Capturing Sound: How Techology Has Changed Music “Making America Musical: the Phonograph and “Good Music,” and write a 2-3 page reaction. There are a lot of issues you might address, but do at least comment on the notion of “good” versus, presumably, “not good” music.
