The goal of this program is for you to successfully teach school. The other course that you are taking this semester, U.S. Schools in Social Context, gives you a good framework for understanding high need schools. This exercise will help you reflect on your own expectations of, or experiences in high needs classrooms.
Begin by reading this article “Seeing the Pedagogies, Practices, and Programs Urban Students Want” by Kristien Zenkov. (Attached) Then develop a main response in which you address the following:
(1) Discuss Zenkov’s research questions and the methods she used to find the answers. Please suggest two additional ways in which a person might conduct research to answer these questions.
(2) How do the descriptions of urban students’ experiences and concerns compare with your own expectations or experiences?
