Working title: To what extent can coaching to influence staff engagement
Setting the context (approx. 200 words)
The issue this change project will focus on is that of staff engagement. The study will take place in a disadvantaged, all-through (4-16) Academy in inner-city London and will focus on pastoral leaders ability to engage their followers. Each year team is led by a Head of Year who manages a team of 12 form tutors and additional 6-8 members of staff who are collectively responsible for the well-being and pastoral care of up to 360 students.
The aim is to develop a greater understanding of follower engagement and to explore whether the introduction of a new initiative (leadership coaching) can influence leaders ability to engage their followers. This is of particular importance to the organisation in order to align employees to the organisations vision, increasing productivity and ultimately improving student outcomes.
The contribution of this study will inform the professional development of other middle leaders within the organisation and its generalisability may be useful to similar organisations looking to introduce leadership coaching as a means to increase follower engagement. It is of particular relevance, as the researcher is of the understanding that such a study has not been conducted within this context before.
