Assignment: Philosophy of Education Name: From the syllabus. As part of our study of the philosophy of American education, you will prepare a 4-5 pagepersonal philosophy of education. Your philosophy of education will continue to evolve throughout your career.
This assignment affords you an opportunity to wrestle with some of the difficult questions, such as the status of equality in a democratic society and the role of education within this society, which translate into your teaching and leading behaviors. You will assess your beliefs about knowledge, learning, students, and teaching. Your philosophy must demonstrate cogent analysis of the ideas presented in class. All writing must be in 12-point font with one-inch margins and must follow the APA style.
This assignment is due on 10/25(new date!!!)by 11:59pm ET.For this assignment, you will delve into your beliefs about a number of key issues in education. Please keep in mind that while you will be asked to share your beliefs, you are also expected to use the course readings (and other resources, as needed) to substantiate your ideas.
In other words, the expectation is that you have formed your ideas based on documented theories, historical events, or other education concepts that can be referenced in books, articles, or other academic writings. You should have a minimum of 12 citations in this paper. That does not mean that you need 12 different references, but rather you should be citing texts to back up your ideas at least 12 times throughout the document.
Section 1: Purpose of Education What is the purpose of education? Why do schools exist, specifically public schools? What should the role of thegovernment have in funding and managing schools? Who should be educated? In this section, reflect on the questions above. Clearly state how you view education and its role in our American society.
Take some time to review the history of education in the US (particularly for women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities) and consider that in your response. Remember, not everyone views education in the same way so be explicit in your beliefs.
Section 2: Role of the Teacher and Leader What is the job of a teacher(e.g., “sage on the stage” vs. “guide on the side”)? What is s/he responsible for doing (both formally and informally)? How shouldschool and district leaderssupport teachers? What are their roles in schools? With references to substantiate your ideas, address the questions above. Consider the differences between teachers and leaders. Explore how their roles have changed through the years and if so, how and why. Remember to give examples, where appropriate, to make your writing clear
