This paper has three parts, and each part should start on its own page. Each part should be no more than one page long. (25 points per part)
From the point of view of Motivation, describe Ender’s personality in terms of Henry Murray’s theory. Briefly describe how Ender displays each of these three needs. Which of the three is predominant, which one is secondary, and which one is the weakest?
Give an example of how the primary need you identified overcomes the secondary need, give an example of how the primary need overcomes the tertiary (weakest) need, and give an example of how the secondary need overcomes the weakest need.
Discuss Ender’s personality from the point of Style and Content of emotional life (Chapter 13).
At the beginning of the book, discuss Ender’s affect intensity and frequency of affect (positive or negative). Refer to Figure 13.8 (in the book and the slides) and give three examples of how Ender fits your assessment of affect intensity and affect frequency.
Does Ender’s affect intensity and affect frequency change by the end of the book? If so, how? Give three examples that support that shift. If it does not change, give three examples that demonstrate Ender’s resistance to the influence of the environment (other people and situations) and his past experiences.
