Part 1: From the serious case review report identify the key findings and make comparisons with findings from other serious cases reviews and research and identify recurring themes.
Part 2: In this section you will demonstrate your developing understanding and expertise of statutory children and families social work.
Identifying three separate incidents around which to focus your critical argument, discuss what should have been done in response to events, notifications, contacts with and about the family to children’s social care.
This section needs to be underpinned by relevant social work theory, models and evidence based practice and take takes into account human rights and social work values.
The session should include consideration of how assessment information should have been gathered, who would have been seen/interviewed, decision making, planning and intervention. You need to be clear what identified risks are being managed and how they are potentially impacting upon the child’s well-being.
Part 3: Finally you should identify what your key learning is from the assignment and wider module content and how this will impact upon your practice in your final placement and as a qualified social worker. You should also comment on the usefulness of the serious case review process and publication as a tool for improving social work practice.

You will need to engage with wider reading relevant to the area of social work particularly in relation to the specific key social work practice issues identified in the serious case review.
