In “She Begat This” the controversy is with her frequent use of black vernacular throughout her music. The album is now 20 years old and still holds the attention of so many who would not otherwise cherish her brilliance of the context of her voice if it was not through hip hop music. People expect black vernacular in hip hop and are accepting of it.
In “They Say I Say” chapter 9 “ain’t so is not” discusses how society over values some dialects and devalues others. “Black English vernacular is as legitimate of variety of language as standard English”
The similarities will be discussion topics surrounding: black vernacular and its acceptance in hip hop but not in writing or speech. Or,
The differences should surround Lauren Hill’s effect of people and how well respected and iconic she remains in popular, American society. But black vernacular is not recognized as a respected form of voice as a general rule.
