1. Discuss the law surrounding the reporting restrictions regarding criminal cases in the UK.
(include active proceedings, examples of UK media criminal cases, contempt of court, substantial risk of prejudice)
2. Bilal has commenced his career as an investigative journalist and has obtained a sought-after position with the CBB News Agency. His first assignments require him to undertake and apply for a number of Freedom of Information (FoI) requests.
Bilal is unsure how to make these applications and would like you to detail how he needs to make the application and advise him on his likelihood of successful FOI requests for the following organisations: –
a. Local Council – records for the number of successful new build applications (but Bilal is not even sure the council keeps these records).
b. Ministry of Defence – to obtain the number of 18-35 year olds joining the British Army over the year 2020.
c. Members of the Cabinet – a request as to their personal views on whether they think the UK should invest in a UK developed vaccine for Covid-19.
d. GCHQ and MI5 – to obtain information on the most recent BAME recruitment and staff employment statistics.
