The paper needs to demonstrate the ways in which Arabic philosophers contributed to the rise of western occultism.
Start by providing an introduction of how the Arabs paved the way for Western Renaissance. Also include how the Arabic translation movement aided in spreading knowledge tot the Western Hemisphere.
Define occultism and its varied meanings. Then define magic in an Arabic context. For the body parts, discuss Arabic philosophers’ contribution to astrology in general first. Then demonstrate the ways in which Al Kindi uses ancient thinking and philosophy (such as that of Plato or Aristotle, etc.) to create his theories.
And then discuss the following: Al Kindi’s rays and how westerners used it for magical purposes, Al Kindi on Marsilio Ficino, Al Kindi on John Dee, and Al Kindi and his talisman theories. I’ve attached a document that restates these guidelines. I’ve also attached a collection of sources that I would like to be integrated in the paper.
One important source to use is Liana Saif’s book: The Arabic Influences on Early Modern Occult Philosophy. The 4800 word count includes footnotes, but does not include the bibliography. Not more than 16 sources please.
