The key question that the Board of Directors in this case study needs to answer is whether to authorize the hiring of 10 new social workers with Community Counseling. The CEO has made a case for hiring more social workers based on trends in several key performance measures.
The issue at hand is whether the CEO’s interpretation of the data is defensible, and what the board’s interpretations of those same data are. A key part of this case is the fact that in the recent past, 10 social workers had been hired and had worked for 10 years in the agency. If the CEO is to be successful in making his case, he needs to show that during the time the agency had more social workers they made a difference.
