The use of telemedicine to provide health care is not a new concept. However, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, providers’ offices, clinics and acute care settings, are increasing the use of telemedicine to assess and care for patients. Telemedicine visits are a way to increase patient and staff safety by limiting exposure to COVID-19 through social distancing, yet still enabling medical staff to provide some patient care. It has been predicted that this increase in telemedicine use for general and specialty practices will change the future of how we provide health care even when this pandemic is over.
