5. What is the relationship between ‘race’ and ‘nation’ in contemporary Britain?
6. Discuss two approaches to the study of ‘mixedness’ as a racial identity.
7. How do the concepts of ‘hybridity’ and ‘multiculturalism’ contribute to understanding of racial and ethnic identities?
An essay is used to assess your understanding of specific ideas and your ability to explain these in your own words.
Written in a critical, discursive style, bringing together ideas, evidence and arguments to address specific problems or questions.
Follow a particular structure:
Introduction:
Context, aim of essay, main argument, how you will structure the essay.
Body:
1st point, 2nd point and 3rd point divided into separate paragraphs/ sub-titles. Develop your arguments point by point and explain how each point support your main argument in the introduction. Ensure you are referencing concepts, theories, and examples regularly.
Conclusion:
Summarize how you have supported your main argument in the introduction. Do not introduce new arguments or examples. Remind the reader how you have answered the question.
Arguments are discursive and analytical.
Should focus on the brief/essay question as opposed to writing generally about a topic.
Should be written in appropriate language and carefully cited and referenced.
