Research topic: Analyze the tension between the Ideal and the Real in The Great Gatsby.
Said another way, how do images, symbols and passages about transient and short-lived notions work in direct contrast against images, symbols and passages about the less desirable but very tangible material world?
From syllabus: Papers must include secondary sources (e.g. be a research paper). Each paper will contain an arguable thesis sentence in the first or second paragraph, be in MLA format, and will contain and make reference to established and credible academic sources, but be driven by your own argument. It will contain a Works Cited page.
One of the sources will be The Great Gatsby and the other a peer reviewed academic source.
