PERSPECTIVES REASEARCH PAPER
Overall Assignment Goals:
The research perspectives assignment asks you to write an essay to a specific, popular audience with the main purpose of informing your readers about the different views that exist on your issue.
In this essay, you will pick a specific audience that has a stake in the topic and you will directly address that audience to inform your readers about the competing/differing views other people have already expressed about your topic. These views will come from three sources that you will seek out about your own research topic.
You will summarize each source, examining the particular position that the author takes as they approach your topic, and then you will analyze the relative strengths and weaknesses of each source’s stance.
Over the coming weeks, we will discuss methods to perform such analyses. Your essay will have to directly speak to your specific audience through your tone, stance, style, word choice, etc. The overall scope of the essay is to inform your audience about different views from three different articles and to provide your readers with your initial take about these competing views.
In addition, at the end of your Presenting Research Perspectives Paper you will add a one-page Audience Justification Statement that explains what audience you think you may speak to in your final research argument and what specific rhetorical choices you think you’ll make to appeal to this audience.
