Essay Prompts – Pick One:
⦁ How does a speaker from one (or more) of the poems transform? Explain and say why/how.
⦁ Think of some of the structures we have seen in the poems we have read. Some are in one long stanza, some are in tercets (three lines of poetry grouped together), etc. Explain and say why/how the poem is like this.
⦁ Poems can be interpreted in many ways. Think about how you want to interpret it. Is there a theme you noticed or an image that has significant meaning to you? A meaning that for you has deeper, personal, social, metaphorical meaning? Explain and say why/how.
⦁ Think of the craft elements we have talked about so far (ones to consider: stanza, enjambed lines breaks, end-stopped lines figurative/literal language, metaphor, simile, alliteration, tone, rhyme, speaker, listener, connation, denotation) and write how one (or more) are effective in one (or more) poems and explain.
⦁ Pick two poems with similar themes and compare the two poems using those themes.
⦁ Pick two poems written by the same author and compare the similarities and differences using craft elements.
⦁ Choose a “literary perspective” (for example historical, psychological, biographical, gender) and describe what one learns from viewing it from that lens in comparison to a poem.
