Hello,
I hope you have been learning a lot! Thank you for sending me your report on the different roles on the data science team and how their roles support our organization. Every intern we get helps give me a fresh perspective on the vital role these creative and skilled individuals have. I would be so lost without them!
I have just met with the data science team and they think you are ready to know more about the data science methodology—how data scientists go about finding insights in the data we use here at Nutri Mondo. I recommended they review with you the most recent project I have been working on with them—we are using data from the US government to look at food insecurity in the United States. We are working with several communities in that country to design programs aimed at reducing obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. We know our data insights can help these communities better understand how food insecurity contributes to these issues and ultimately help us address issues in other countries as we continue our global research and outreach. Anyway, I want the data science team to show you how we first approached this issue—how we figured out what questions we were trying to answer and what data we could use to look for answers.
I have provided you with some great resources from our collaboration with IBM that should give you a general overview of data science methodology, along with a few articles I think you will find interesting. Of course, the data science team will show how the methodology applies to our work on food insecurity.
