Assessment and Guidance
The assignment has two Sections which make up the 2500 word assessment. The two parts that you are required to produce are as follows; a proposal in the form of a report and an assignment. The work is marked as one assignment.
NB: – It is expected that Public Health theory will be used in the report where necessary (e.g. Public Health Policy) and throughout this assignment to support the discussion. The marking criteria include this aspect in Marking Criteria 2 which accounts for the use of theory for the full assignment.
From a public health perspective identify a commissioning project or practice innovation which you would like to implement in your field of practice. There are numerous possibilities for either a commissioning project or a practice innovation; they can be very small or large scale.

A new teaching resource
A new therapeutic intervention
Examples of practice innovations
A different way of working
E.G. You may have identified from practice a different way of delivering a service which would improve the patient experience or be more cost effective.
A new piece of equipment
E.G. You may have seen a piece of equipment used in one area and now you are on placement in another area where the equipment is not used but would be beneficial to patient care.
Change in how your workplace is organised
Establishment of a new group for service users or community members
Falls prevention
Change or development of a therapeutic intervention
Part One – Report (Marking Criteria 1)
Write a report proposing a commissioning project or a practice innovation. Use an appropriate report writing format in the template provided (available on Blackboard site).
Guidance for the report 750 words (plus/minus 10%)
Promote your idea (focussed and to the point)
Use the report to present the case for your proposal, it will be short and succinct and it is necessary to use the template provided. The aim of the report is focus on how to promote your idea, setting out your intentions and the rationale for your chosen project/practice innovation. Using the report format will enable you to develop your report writing skills which are useful and applicable in many areas of nursing.
Part Two – Assignment
The assignment is an evaluation and critical review of your chosen project for commissioning or practice innovation. This assignment should follow a standard format:
