Details

Each student will prepare a technical memo to summarize the cycling facility selection review process and make recommendations for an appropriate facility. Students are to follow and document the three-step processdescribed in OTM Book 18 (2013), as well as considering the NACTO all ages & abilities facility selection tool for comparison. Include in your technical memo high-level recommendations related to project implementation (i.e. what needs to be considered at intersections? driveways? transitions? based on Step 2 of the Book 18 process).

When reviewing the corridor, you should specifically consider the following:

•What is the roadway context (volume, classification, operating/posted speeds) ?

•What are the connecting and intersecting cycling facilities?

•What are the key destinations along the corridor?•What is the built-form and land use (i.e. street oriented vs. backlotted development, commercial vs. residential etc.)

•What type of cyclists may be anticipated to use this corridor? Who are you trying to attract?

•How might your proposed facility type be implemented?Site visits are encouraged, where feasible. The review should be 2-4 pages single spaced, using clear section headers and illustrative exhibits as needed.
