In past summer sessions, the students have really enjoyed this assignment because the majority never took the time to understand their personal brand and develop their narrative/storytelling and their marketing campaign to win their first job after graduation.

Next, consider and address the following sections in your paper. You can use headlines, sub headlines and bullet points throughout your paper:

– First, detail your short and long term career objectives. You can do these via bullet points. Short term objectives could include where you want to work the year following graduation and this can be as detailed as a specific industry, company and job type or title. A long term career objective or objectives can be where you want to be working in five (5) years.

– Describe your personal brand including unique elements: your upbringing, past work experience, internships, extracurricular activities, achievements, special skills, passions/hobbies, unique accomplishments/skills/experiences something that is different that an employer might find interesting (you speak five languages, you served in the military, you are a black belt, you have run marathons or cycled across the United States, you are student athlete, you started your own company, you started your own club or non-profit, etc)

– Describe the attributes, characteristics, values that you believe comprise your personal brand and support that with proof points/examples (collaborative/team player, community-minded, entrepreneurial-spirited, research-focused, creative, tech-savvy, etc.)

– Detail the industry/industries where you want to work and why. What are some of the challenges and opportunities in these industries for you? Interview someone by phone who is in your network and quote them in your paper.

– Within those industries, research and identify at least three (3) companies where you would like to work. Include these companies in your paper (again, you can bullet point these ) and include a line or two for each company why you want to work for them

– Research and identify the type of jobs/job titles you could potentially apply for.

– Research and detail your strategic marketing plan – how are you going to “win” the job at one of those companies (what kind of content are you producing or sharing on your channels including Linkedln; who do you plan to engage in your professional network to secure an informational interview with those target companies; who do you know who knows someone at one of those companies; once you secure an informational interview at one of thee

companies what kind of marketing material do you plan to share, how do you plan to market yourself before, during and after the interview)
– Conclude with what you learned from research and writing this assignment.
